No Second Amendment, No First
No Second Amendment, No First
Today’s Left endlessly preaches the evils of “gun violence.” Hardly a day goes by without a progressive politician or mainstream media publication calling for gun control, even for the law-abiding – and it is a message increasingly echoed from the nation’s pulpits, presented as common sense decency and virtue. Calls for “radical non-violence” are endowed with the imprimatur of religious doctrine.
What if the truth were radically different? What if the use of deadly force against violent criminals and tyrannical governments is not just compatible with church teaching, but flows from the very heart of biblical faith and reason? What if the freedoms we treasure are intimately tied to the power to resist violent coercion by intolerant governments?
This is the long-overdue case John Zmirak makes with stunning clarity and conviction in No Second Amendment, No First. A Yale-educated Christian journalist and former college professor, Zmirak shows how the right of self-defense against authoritarian government was confirmed in both the Old and New Testaments, is implied in Natural Law, and has been affirmed by Church tradition over the centuries.
He further reveals how today’s threats to gun rights, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment, are the inexorable result of increasingly brazen attacks by secularists on human dignity as the “image of God.” From Lenin’s Russia to Hitler’s Germany, from Mao’s China to Chavez’s Venezuela, to the streets of lawless “blue cities” in America in the summer of 2020 , the story is unchanging: the first move of authoritarians is to deny citizens the ability to defend themselves against the government.
Editorial Reviews
“This is Zmirak at his very best, bristling with wit and prophetic foresight. A robust defense of our right to bear arms, it is a stark warning of why, nearing the completion of their long march through the institutions, leftists are so desperate to undermine this right.” - Jay W. Richards, Senior Research Fellow, The Heritage Foundation.
“A profound and vital work by one of America’s last truly brave and free thinkers. Zmirak brilliantly explores how our culture has gone so wrong—taken over by an elite espousing a radical Marxist philosophy, and he shows why the only way back is through the rediscovery of our God-given rights, particularly the right to bear arms. A magnum opus. - Mark Judge, Author, The Devil’s Triangle
“Zmirak details the political, scientific, and cultural history of the Left, which is now in control of every major influential institution in America. This crusade is quickly eroding the Bill of Rights, most notably with the criminalization of free speech (first amendment) and activity hostility to the second amendment. Everyone who wants to understand how we got here and where we go from here must read this book." - Julie Kelly, Author, January 6: How Democrats Used the Capitol Protest to Launch a War on Terror Against the Right
“John Zmirak’s No Second Amendment, No First offers a masterful overview of the historical discovery of the Biblical rights of the human person. Preserving life and liberty requires that citizens have the means to defend themselves against violence. This book is a quick class in the origin and implications of the Bill of Rights, which I wouldn’t be shocked to see someday cited in a Supreme Court opinion reaffirming our Second Amendment.” - Sidney Powell, Attorney, Author of Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice
